March: Birchbox Unboxing

birchbox_3

For this month’s Birchbox, I decided to go with the curated box. This is the first time I do this, I usually just choose one of the samples and let the other ones be a surprise, but I was really impressed with the products chosen for this month’s box. I’m not sure if they have a person sponsoring the curated box every month (haven’t paid enough attention), but I do know this month’s box comes with a “handwritten” letter from Reese Witherspoon – I’m sure she spent hours writing these.

The theme of the box is “Hard-working, powerful products for powerful women,” in honor of Women’s History Month which I thought was pretty cool and made me feel better about paying $10 to get samples of products I probably won’t purchase later.

This month’s products in the curated box are:

1. R+Co DALLAS Thickening Spray

I am curious about what this product will do to my hair. I’m not very familiar with what the difference between volume and thickness is – if someone would like to illuminate me please leave a comment below, please! – as other products I’ve gotten sell volume and not thickness. This spray also claims to add shine. It is to be used before you blow-dry your hair and this puts me off a little bit mainly because I am lazy and I don’t blow-dry my hair that frequently, but I was very impressed with the amika Bombshell Blowout Spray I got in a different box. Who knows, maybe I’ll love this too.

2. ARROW BOOST Color Enhancing Lip Balm

I was actually really excited to try this product as I thought it was going to look very pinky and natural and lovely. It didn’t. This product claims to “adjust to your skin’s unique pH” to create a “just-for-you hue.” I guess my hue is pretty peachy and not was I was expecting. It still feels nice on the lips and I’m sure I’ll use it on the weekends when I stay at home and I want to give my lips a break from matte lipstick, but not impressed and would not purchase it.

3. Benefit Cosmetics The POREfessional Face Primer

This is the only product I had heard about and used before getting this box. I think pretty much everyone knows about this product and for a long time it was THE primer, but now a lot of other brands have released great products as well, making this one no longer a favorite. I like using it, I’m not a big fan of primer in general – honestly, I think this is supposed to do the same as a moisturizer – so whatever makes my skin feel nice, I’ll take!

3. Clarins Hydra Essential Silky Cream – Normal to Dry Skin

I am REALLY excited to properly try this. I consider myself to have dry skin – no idea, it could be oily for all I know – and I just look for products that make my skin feel healthy, fresh and smooth. I am cheap though so I usually stick to affordable drugstore brands and just switch out brands every time I get a new moisturizer. The full-size version of this product retails for $48 – that’s one lunch at my favorite restaurant – and if you make me choose between an endless supply of steak and a moisturizer…. let me tell you it’s not going to be the moisturizer.

5. Davines Ol All in One Milk

birchbox_5

Another product I was really excited about and it is actually a pretty decent size – usually these subscription boxes send samples that are a one-time-use, half air, half product. It is “a nourishing, all-in-one leave-in treatment that detangles while adding volume, shine, and heat protection,” so according to this, there’s nothing this product can’t do. I’ve tried it once and I liked it, my main mistake is that I try multiple products for the first time on the same day so I have no idea which one actually did the magic, or who knows, maybe it was a combination of all. Does anyone else do this? And then you’re questioning all your decisions and trying to figure out which product it was? No? Okayyy

6. Davines Ol Shampoo + Conditioner (No link for this one as apparently there are plenty of Davines Ol Shampoos and they didn’t bother to tell me which one they sent me)

Last but not least, a bonus product for this month’s box. I haven’t tried it yet, but I am excited to, I will do my best to try it on its own so I can actually provide a useful review for you guys!

The items are completely different from the ones we get over in the UK & Ireland, but I love Clarins although as you said, quiet expensive. I guess is all about trying new products and stick to the ones are most suitable πŸ™‚ great post! x
